Hard things= Opportunity to learn

HEYYY!!! I hope everyone had a good week!
Not gonna lie this week was a little rough. Almost every appointment that we had was canceled or fell through no matter how many times we rescheduled or planned to meet. Something i'm learning pretty quickly is that you cant control the agency of those around you. No matter how badly you want them to make the right choice people are always going to be able to choose. In the missionary handbook (aka white bible) it tells us to always write home positive and uplifting things. I hope that by telling both the good and the hard that it doesn't sound depressing or negative, but real. Missionary work is hard, life is hard. The better we can understand and know how to deal with the hard things and support one another the better we can help and learn from each other and the hard things that go on in this world. We should never only put on display the most perfect moments of our life but celebrate it all! I've never been happier! I love this work and feel honored to be apart of it!

ANYWAYS... let me get off my soapbox and tell yall what else happened this week.

It was the end of the month which means we were on our last stretch of miles we get in our car this month and were so close to meeting the mark so we decided we were going to have to make some sacrifices. One night we had a member take us up to this neighborhood where we know a lot of members and potentials live so we thought hey what the heck we can walk the neighborhood for majority of the night to do some work. Oh how poor sister kinnes judgment was of how large the neighborhood was and how dark it got so soon in the night... we were having a great time walking when after like 20 min when my worst nightmare happens. We see a big white van pull around the corner. EVERYBODY that knows me knows that kidnappers are my biggest fear!! I was freaking out inside, but thought how unreasonable lots of people have vans. I didn't start freaking out until I saw it slow down and turn around after passing us. Sister Durfey was totally calm and I was like we gotta go!!SCARY hahah nothing happened obviously, im alive but that night I learned how grateful I am to have a car in this area.
I felt like I got to do a bunch of singing this week which was fun! i'm hoping the weather stays nice so we can go out in the little town to street preform some hymns and find people that way!
Service has been awesome as well. We have been doing lots of planned service, but my favorite is unplanned. It was super rainy one night and out appointment fell through so we decided to go to the local grocery store and walk people out to their cars with our umbrellas. It was so fun and we got to talk to a lot of people.

Right now in our mission wide book of Mormon reading we just read 3 nephi chapter 11 where Jesus Christ comes to visit the people in the Americas. Leading up to that, the people were in darkness. 3 nephi 11:20-23
 20 And it came to pass that there was thick darkness upon all the face of the land, insomuch that the inhabitants thereof who had not fallen could feel the vapor of darkness;
21 And there could be no light, because of the darkness, neither candles, neither torches; neither could there be fire kindled with their fine and exceedingly dry wood, so that there could not be any light at all;
22 And there was not any light seen, neither fire, nor glimmer, neither the sun, nor the moon, nor the stars, for so great were the mists of darkness which were upon the face of the land.
23 And it came to pass that it did last for the space of three days that there was no light seen; and there was great mourning and howling and weeping among all the people continually; yea, great were the groanings of the people, because of the darkness and the great destruction which had come upon them.
Now this is kind of dark and heavy stuff, but this is what our life would be like without the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the light! Without him there is no hope! As we continually strive to become like him and emulate that same light we can gain not only light but the happiness and knowledge that comes from light! Sometimes you may feel like these people in ancient America. In a place of darkness and confusion, and don't forget these people are a righteous people (for the most part) but they each experienced this darkness. Never loose hope. Never loose faith because the day will come when it will be light again and the savior is the bearer of all light!
I love you all and I pray that we may all gain a little more light in our lives each day!
Have the best week! Id love to hear from you all! Transfers are next week so ill be sure to keep you posted if I stay one more transfer here in Pittsboro or get shipped off to my next stop here in NC :)
