HELLO!!! I hope everyone had an amazing week this last week and had some opportunities to serve on the worldwide day of service! Also thank you so much to all those who sent me videos for #LightTheWorld week 1 :) y'all are the best! I got a long email for you today so brace yourself!
The weeks have felt like they are flying by already, and every week is a blurr, but has been great! Shout out to Kenna McMillan and Stetler Buttars who got their mission call this week!! Iowa and North Dakota are lucky places!!
We have gotten to start with lots of our service not only for light the world but in the community! We are volunteering at a cool thrift store (and anyone who knows me knows that thrift stores are my JAM) so that has been super fun! We helped them create a logo for their Christmas charity! This place is awesome and takes all their earnings year round to build houses for people! It has been super fun to go and serve around such awesome people! We are also working on serving at a tiger habitat in the next few weeks! YUP TIGERS! WHAT?!? yea idek why there are tigers in NC but we want to go see them hahah and serve of course. ;)
Then we had exchanges again! Haha so SisterSsimoes and I had dinner in my area with the Scott family. They are an awesome family that we have been visiting with that my mom actually knows?! So super small world, but the husband is the wrestling coach at UNC which is awesome! And when we went over last Tuesday he had 3 amazing female wrestlers there, one of them being an Olympic gold medalist Helen Maroulis! I loved talking to them and they had so many questions about us serving and were so interested and that lead us into teaching her the Restoration which was insane!!!! She told us she totally felt what we had (THE SPIRIT! SHE FELT THE SPIRIT) and was accepting sooo much of what we were telling her. Sadly she was flying out the next day, but I really hope she gets the chance to meet missionaries again! She was so so cool and so so nice! We love the Scott family though and hope to meet with them more while we are here!
Sister Simoes also sings so we recorded a Christmas song for Facebook! It was super fun to have the ukelele and sing with it! We really are trying to use Facebook as a tool to help share the gospel in anyway we can and has been so incredibly fun and we hope effective! Later that night Sister Nicolosi and I got pizza from Marrcos and we both LOVE spicy food so we told them to load up with Jalapenos and boy did they! Spiciest pizza ever!!! BUT SOOO YUMMY! We had to get a tub of ice cream out the the fridge on stand by! You probably think 2 sister couldnt finish a large pizza covered in Jalapenos and half a tub of ice cream in one sitting, but boy you'd be wrong... hahaha.
So funny story! The first day we got to this area we knocked a few of the doors in our complex and have been keeping up and teaching 2 of them Bill and Ann. This week we found out that THEY USED TO BE MARRIED?!? WHAT?!? We went to Bill's house and saw Ann's car and maybe thought they were dating, but nope. Haha!! Sadly though Bill had to be admitted to the hospital. Ann told us that he was getting moved to a recovery center and that we should visit him soon. So the next day we had two of the older brothers in our ward come with us to give Bill a blessing and Ann received one also! It was so awesome! We really hope that they continue to grow towards their savior Jesus Christ!
Then we got to celebrate the #LightTheWorld worldwide day of service! That morning we went to an 8 year old baptism for 2 of the boys in our ward and got to meet some non member friends their supporting, which was cool. We are hoping to work with the members to meet with them soon! Then we met up with the Young Women to make soup for some of the elderly members who live alone. It was so fun to serve along side the young women! Then after that we went and helped one of the members rake their yard and we killed like 6 snakes!?!?! But we always have a blast talking with her! Then after that we went to one of our favorite less active members homes! The Rodriguez family!! She owns a Mexican food truck and is sooooo good at cooking and made us empanadas!!! Mmmmmmm yummy they also were trying to teach us some Spanish. We love them so much and how much love they having us in their home!
We have also been visiting someone with MS this week! She is wheelchair bound but has the most happy positive look on life ever! She just moved here about 15 days ago. She told us she was looking at all the stuff she had to do and didnt know how she could do it by herself then we knocked on the door! We were able to build her a bathroom shelf and teach her the plan of salvation which kinda blew her mind. We are planning on going back soon to serve and teach her! She has lots of questions though which is challenging but good!
My testimony is strengthened each day I am out here! I love the Savior and my Father in Heaven! I KNOW that the Book of Mormon is the word of God! Follow its teachings and you WILL grow closer to Jesus Christ! The Savior wants nothing more for us than to be worthy to come back and live in his presence one day! In Alma 5 it talks about the Lord of the vineyard! I encourage you to read that chapter and see how badly the savior wants to bring all of us back to the Father one day! He often asks in that chapter what more could have I done? After He had already made the sacrifice of the atonement! He still asks what He could have done more to save His children! Come unto Christ and be perfected in Him he loves you and want you to return to him!
